Job opening – USDA ARS National Program Leader – apply by April 25, 2022
The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) in Beltsville, Maryland is seeking a National Program Leader for Crop Production and Protection to replace Dr. Jose Costa. The person selected will provide leadership and direction for national and regional research programs related to grain crop improvement, production and protection. Specifically, the responsibilities include providing technical leadership and guidance and coordinating scientific research programs in the area of Grain Crops; participating in the review of scientific manuscripts; planning and providing input on budget initiatives; managing multidisciplinary research programs related to grain crops and coordinating team based multidisciplinary studies; and establishing and maintaining communication with both ARS and non-ARS research leaders. In addition, the candidate would be developing and evaluating National Research programs, as well as reviewing the process of research, including interpreting and documenting research outcomes and developing research initiatives.
The position is full time and applications will be accepted through April 25, 2022. This job is tele-work eligible and requires occasional travel. Reimbursement of relocation expenses may be provided. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen.
Job Requirements:
Applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
- Degree in the biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, plant physiology, genetics, chemistry, or related disciplines; OR a combination of coursework as described above and appropriate experience.
- Degree in botany or plant physiology or a related scientific discipline that included at least 10 semester hours in plant physiology.
- Degree in genetics or one of the basic biological sciences that included at least 9 semester hours in genetics.
- Specialized experience conducting research in the area of Grain Crops that resulted in peer reviewed journal articles, patents, and/or germplasm releases and providing senior level technical leadership in the area of Grain Crops. This experience can be paid or unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs.
