CSI Seminar Junping Chen, POSTPONED to August 20 at 11 AM CT
The Center for Sorghum Improvement (CSI) is hosting a virtual seminar given by Junping Chen, Research Geneticist at the Plant Stress and Germplasm Development Unit, USDA-ARS at Lubbock, TX on Tuesday, August 20 at 11 AM CT. The title of his talk is “Impacts of heat stress on gene expression during sorghum seed development.” Dr. Chen’s research work focuses on the dissection of genetic and molecular mechanisms of heat tolerance in plants and to the development of phenotyping and genetic tools for studying heat tolerance in crops. Her group has developed a heat index system for accurately phenotyping meaningful heat tolerance traits in sorghum and maize under field settings. She has identified heat tolerant and heat sensitive sorghum germplasms and mutant lines for genetic study. Her work has led to the discovery of genes and genetic loci essential for heat tolerance, male sterility, multi-tiller, HCN-free traits in sorghum.
